The best way to make good art

Here's the secret!

To make good art... in fact, to make A LOT of good art...

you have to MAKE A LOT OF ART.

Whether you:

  • follow in the footsteps of Charles Chagall (1022 paintings painted),

  • or maybe Van Gogh (900 paintings in only 10 years), or

  • Pablo Picasso (far out - Picasso is thought to have made about 50,000 artworks during his lifetime, including paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, and ceramics - in fact he started ceramics at age 65 and made over 3500 pieces!)

The fact remains that you can't get good at art without actually making art.

And The Law of Averages means that you'll probably like half of your work more than the other half.

So if you want to 'make good art', have a plan to make A LOT of it.

Now, if you're at home a lot (SO much love going out to Sydney, Melbourne, Byron and the other lockdown locations right now) or have hardly any time, artmaking is something that can take 5 minutes or all day. It's totally up to you.

Of course, you can choose if and how you'd like to make art:

  1. You can pick up a pencil or brush and hope inspiration hits you; OR

  2. You can follow along with one of my online classes and impress yourself with what's possible - so much so you'll be smiling to yourself the rest of the day.

There are probably other ways too, but those two are top of mind for me!

My brand new online course is Start With Blue. For only $27 you get 5 fun, blue projects, PLUS a bunch of launch-offer-bonuses (they won't be around forever) so if you haven't signed up for that yet, here's the link.

It's the end of the week and I'd like to leave you with two quotes by Art Critic, Jerry Saltz :

I rage against Vincent van Gogh for needing to die at 37, after painting for only ten years.

AND

Turns out Picasso's passion for uncertainty, mystery, and the thrill of life never ended.

Whether it's a little or a lot, let's use the time we have wisely - if art is something you'd like to try, now is the time. And this is a great way.

Learning is more than a just a little thrilling.

Let's do it. Let's Fill Your Book. Woohoo!
