Finish ... When It Is Really Finished

Knowing when you are finished a painting is a skill we all need to develop for ourselves, as we get more miles on our brushes.  Unfortunately, no one can do it for you.

I have definitely had times when I have gone too far and ruined a good painting.

Other times I have stopped out of fear that I was going to ruin it, but the painting just didn’t achieve that "zing" that a perfectly finished painting does.

From my experience when I think that I’m finished I just add two more things.

Unfortunately our paintings usually need to go through an ugly stage before it comes out the other side and is something we are proud of.

So next time you ask yourself “am I finished?” Think about two more things you could add and see if that makes a difference to the outcome.
