Seeing (& Painting) the Light!

Using quality, opaque, white acrylic (titanium white) is the key to making a painting shine!

Buy the best white paint you can because the better the paint the more pigment is used and the whiter the light.

(Even if you need to buy a lesser quality paint for your other paints, buy a really good opaque white paint!)

To add the white at the end of a painting you need to envisage where the light would hit the surfaces of the objects.

If you imagine the sun is above the painting then the light needs to be on the high side of every item (petal, leaf etc).

Alternatively think about where the snow would sit if it was snowing.

I really think the white highlights really bring the painting to life.  It can turn a dull, lifeless painting into a delight!

Yellow paint can have a similar effect too, it really depends on the colours already in the painting.

Try using both yellow and white and see what you think!
